Supenaam boy, 8, dies after struck by car

An eight-year-old boy from Supenaam Creek is now dead following an accident that occurred on the Good Hope Public Road, Essequibo Coast yesterday.        According to reports, around 7 am yesterday, Andra Daniels allegedly ran into the path of a car bearing number plate HC 1292 that was proceeding south along the Public Road.

Daniels was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was admitted to the ICU and later died.

His father, Leroy Daniels, told Stabroek News that his son had left home to go to school

when the incident occurred.

“One of my close neighbours called me from work and asked if any of my children gone on the road,” Daniels said. “He say he hear that is he son get in the accident but after he find out, he say was Andra.”

Daniels added that his son was going to the home of his aunt, who lives along the public road, to collect his lunch when he was hit.

“When I reach the hospital, the doctors were still working on him,” Daniels said sadly. “And from what I see, he had head injuries and his leg and one of his hands break.”

The driver of the car is in police custody assisting with investigations.
