PPP is trying to create a rift in APNU

Dear Editor,

Over the past few weeks many of us have witnessed the PPP’s machinery in overdrive trying to create a rift within APNU. The intention it seems, is to pit Mr Granger against Mr Greenidge or vice versa. Writer after writer seems to claim that Mr Greenidge is an upstart and that Mr Granger should discipline him to show who is in charge. To many of us, this is a ploy which could only succeed if the leadership of APNU is foolish enough to allow it to happen. Mr Granger has his style and so does Mr Greenidge, but the party needs leaders with different approaches to policy-making, not like the ‘group think’ PPP. Unlike the rigid PPP, APNU seems flexible in that it allows its members to be creative. This is why for the past few weeks, there were a number of articles written by a battery of PPP writers trying their best to create a rift between these two men. But the leaders of APNU should be wise enough not to allow the PPP or anyone else to dictate what they should or should not do, or what is good or bad for the party and its members’ interest.

APNU with its flaws is still more democratic than the PPP. I believe what the PPP writers want is for Mr Granger to attack Mr Greenidge thereby demoralizing him, so that he becomes discouraged and stops performing. When this is done, they become the winners because they would have gained a free pass on all financial issues and practices lacking transparency. Once they are finished with Mr Greenidge the next man in line for this same kind of action would be Joe Harmon and the other more vocal members of APNU.

While I do not speak for APNU I hope that the leadership in APNU continues to present a strong and united front in all their undertakings. Even if there are internal elections the candidates should compete fiercely. But as soon as the campaign is over every ounce of energy must be committed to the defeat of this oppressive regime.

I hope Mr Greenidge continues to perform and I remind the APNU leadership to be aware of the guile, deception, distortion, misinformation and all the other old tricks which are some of the tools of this regime.

 Yours faithfully,
Aubrey Retemyer
