It is almost four years since the brutal killing of young Sheema Mangar and no one has been charged in connection with this crime. From the date it occurred, I have been following developments and it appears that the parents’ search for justice has been running into sky high brick walls. The last news report on this incident was August 2013 in SN. In an earlier KN news item dated May 23, 2013, it was reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a letter to Mangar’s parents to convey its disappointment with the investigation into Sheema’s death. Why did the ministry send this disappointing missive to Sheema’s parents? I do not know. However, I do believe that for starters Minister Rohee should have at least accepted responsibility for the lack of information and poor investigation into the gruesome murder of this promising young professional. The fact that the crime was committed in public at a busy intersection in Georgetown during the evening rush hour and to date no arrest has been made, continues to be very troubling. Maybe the Minister of Home Affairs has a plausible explanation for this situation.
And what about the forensic samples that were sent to the Barbados Forensic Lab; have the results returned to Guyana? What really is the situation with this case? I am aware that Ms Mangar’s killing resembles so many other crimes which remain unsolved and so the Home Affairs Ministry might have deemed it as simply an addition to the staggering statistics of unsolved murders. I am hoping that Sheema’s parents will get closure. The state of crime and security in Guyana coupled with the Minister of Home Affairs inability to manage his ministry continue to be major issues. I pray that Sheema’s parents will continue to pursue the justice their child deserves.
