JP accused of throwing faeces into tenant’s apartment, damaging property

A Linden businessman and Justice of the Peace has been charged with damaging the property of a tenant, who has accused him of throwing faeces into her home.

Sixty-one-year-old Shiloh Mustafa of 496 Phase One B, Wisroc and 384 One Mile, Wismar, Linden, has been accused by Ashanti Higgins, 33, of throwing pig food into the apartment which she rents from him, making a mess of her carpet and furniture.

It is alleged that on Monday February 17, Mustafa unlawfully and wilfully damaged four Sony speaker boxes, valued at $80,000, and a carpet, valued at $35,000, belonging to Higgins.

Higgins, who resides at 384 One Mile, Wismar, Linden with her two daughters and son, is five months pregnant.

She told the court that the father of her children is in the interior and that Mustafa had been tormenting her for some time.

Mustafa’s attorney, Sonia Thompson, told the court that her client had been trying to evict Higgins from the house.  She also asked the court to grant Mustafa bail as he is a known businessman and is not a flight risk.

Mustafa was granted $50,000 bail and ordered to appear in court on Wednesday March 19 for statements.

However the next hearing will have to be rescheduled after Magistrate Clive Nurse ordered that there be no sitting of the court on March 18 and 19.
