Man lashed nephew with cutlass for leaving TV on – court told

An East La Penitence man, who allegedly lashed his nephew several times with a cutlass for leaving a television on is now on bail, after he appeared in a city court yesterday.

William Baptiste denied that on March 19 at Lot 62 East La Penitence Housing Scheme he dealt Ojay Vallet several lashes across his back, after Vallet fell asleep, leaving on the television set in the home.

Prosecutor Jomo Nichols who presented the prosecution’s case, objected to bail, citing the defendant and the virtual complaint share the same address.

He further stated that Baptiste may tamper with the witness.

However, Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond, granted Baptiste $15,000 bail.

The matter will be called again on April 14.
