Duo accused of stealing truck part released on $100,000 bail

Two persons were yesterday released on $100,000 bail each after denying a charge that they tried to rob Merriman’s Funeral Parlour of a truck shaft.

Faizel Mohammed, 32, and Michael Eastman, 17, who appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on July 3rd, in Meadowbrook Gardens, they attempted to steal a truck shaft worth $70,000 from GEE 8125, belonging to Todd Alphonso Merriman.

The two men both complained to the magistrate that while they were in police custody, they were severely beaten.

Magistrate Azore noted to Prosecutor Adduni Innis that she did indeed observe what appeared to be bruises and marks upon their bodies and asked that the matter be investigated. Innis, however, indicated that the men were not beaten by the police but by public-spirited citizens who witnessed the attempted robbery.

The duo next court appearance is fixed for July 8th at Court One.
