Exmouth labourer charged with burglary

A labourer of Exmouth, Essequibo Coast on Thursday appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of burglary.

It is the prosecution’s case that on July 2 at Paradise, Essequibo Coast, 39-year-old Gregory Nohar went into the dwelling house of Mala Roopchand and stole three pairs of gold earrings, valued $15,000, a cutlass, valued $2,200, a knife, valued $250 and $5,000, representing a total value of $22,950.

The woman said that she secured her house and went to bed and sometime during the night she heard sounds. On checking, she saw Nohar in the house. She raised an alarm and the man made good his escape with the items. He was later arrested and charged.

The man, who was not represented, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted $80,000 bail. He was ordered to return to court on July 22 for the commencement of the trial.
