Canada-based woman, son held at airport over drugs

A Canada-based mother and son were yesterday busted with cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri as they were preparing to leave the country.

The details of the bust are sketchy but this newspaper was told that sometime during the early afternoon, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch discovered cocaine stashed in their suitcases. A police release yesterday said that a total of 10 kilograms, 503 grams of cocaine were found concealed in the false walls of their suitcases.

The duo was scheduled to leave on a Caribbean Airlines flight bound for Canada.

They are scheduled to make their first court appearance today.

This latest drug interception comes on the heels of several which have occurred at the country’s main international airport within the last few days. Several persons have appeared in court so far in connection with those busts.
