Cops probing shooting up of Meadowbrook houses

Crime Chief Leslie James said the police are in receipt of information on the shooting up of two houses in Meadowbrook on Friday night and are investigating the matter.

Last Friday the Meadowbrook area was gripped with fear after gunmen shot up two houses at separate locations. The shooting occurred around 10:30pm and lasted for five minutes. Stabroek News was told that no one was injured in the shooting and the matter was reported.

According to sources, one of the houses that was riddled was the property where a 33-year-old miner was gunned down early in 2013. Jason Wills died instantly after a gunman jumped the gate, flung open a door and started firing shots.

One source said she was watching TV when she heard the gunfire. She said it sounded like a machine gun was spraying bullets for a long while and then it suddenly stopped. “Then there was another set of rounds and two cars drove away,” she said.

She said police arrived at the scene almost immediately. “There were so many police vehicles. I felt so cold when the shots were firing. It was real dreadful,’ she said.
