Langston Fraser, 25, was yesterday remanded to prison after denying that he robbed another man at gunpoint while receiving a free drop. Fraser of Paradise, East Coast Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry where he was accused of robbing Mark Davis of $163,000 on July 14. Fraser pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on the date in question Davis was driving his car heading to Georgetown when the defendant stopped him and asked for a drop. However, as the car neared Georgetown in the vicinity of Saffon Street, Fraser allegedly pulled out a gun from a haversack he had, pointed it at Davis’s head and relieved him of the cash.
The man’s lawyer, Paul Fung-A-Fat noted that he had no special reasons for the consideration of bail. Prosecutor Grant asked for bail to be refused and cited the nature, gravity, and prevalence of the offence along with the fact that a firearm had been used in the commission of the crime. Grant added that the charge was a serious one and Fraser might not return to answer to it.
The father of one was refused bail and will return on August 4 for statements.
