Bartica woman dies after being hit by lightning

A woman died yesterday after she was stuck by lightning in her yard at Bartica.

Elizabeth Henry, 52, of 4 Miles, Bartica, succumbed at the Bartica Hospital, while receiving treatment after she was struck by lightning, police said in an official statement.

According to Henry’s son, Isaac Charles, he and his sister Aisha and their mother were sitting under their house during torrential rain at approximately 2pm, when he saw lightning strike a utility wire. “It bounce off and catch me mother and sister,” said Charles, who added that he initially thought women were joking. However, after they did not respond to his call or touch, Charles said he ran upstairs to summon a friend, who later helped him to transport his mother to the Bartica Hospital. By that time his sister had managed to regain consciousness.

Charles said although his mother did not respond, she was alive but it was while receiving treatment at the hospital that she succumbed.
