Patentia man succumbs after fire

The Patentia, West Bank Demerara man who allegedly set himself on fire last Sunday succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Emmanuel Ramdoo, 34, of Estate Reserve, Patentia died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Burn Care Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

A devastated Geeta Lakeram, the mother of Ramdoo, told Stabroek News that her son died at the public hospital, around 8:30am. She said he had been nursing third degree burns and had been falling in and out of consciousness.

According to reports, Ramdoo was heard screaming on Sunday morning, by neighbours who rushed to the scene and found the badly burnt man lying on his kitchen floor.

In an interview with Stabroek News yesterday, relatives of Ramdoo said that they were still at a loss as to what really transpired. However, they refuted the claim that he might have committed suicide.

The incident occurred around 9:30 am and led to the formation of a bucket brigade to save Ramdoo’s home.

Ramdoo is survived by his three children, ages nine, eight and six.
