Battered schoolboy due for surgery

Two days following the brutal stabbing and battering of 16-year-old Warren Semple, who is now hospitalised awaiting surgery for an injured hand, police are still in pursuit of suspects.

Commander of D Division Ian Amsterdam stated that the police are currently pursuing three suspects in connection with the assault on Semple on Sunday night.

Ansel Rodney, the mother of the victim, told Stabroek News yesterday that her son needed to have an operation owing to lashes he received on his left hand. The distraught mother told this newspaper that her son’s finger is currently “hanging by the skin.”

“Dem tell me this morning that dem gun do de surgery, now I come back them ain’t do nun yet. Dem say how other people (patients) in front of him,” the 36-year-old mother said. She stated that the police had made contact with her and also enquired as to how her son was doing.

The Uitvlugt Secondary School student of Den Amstel Public Road was admitted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital after he was stabbed and battered about the body on Sunday night, while he along with a relative was walking along Bus Shed Street, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.
