CJIA staff donate 28 units of blood

Several Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) staff last Wednesday “braved the needle” to donate 28 units of blood to the National Blood Transfusion Service.

In a press release, the CJIA said the blood donation drive was held in the airport’s Greeters’ Hall.

Dacia Samaroo, Commercial Officer in the CJIA’s Commercial and Administration Division, who coordinated the initiative said, “We (CJIA) realised that blood is very much in demand. One pint of blood has the capacity to save three lives, so we encouraged all staff to volunteer.” Several members of the public, Immigration and Floor Care staff also donated blood, the press release said.

This is the first time that the airport has undertaken such an initiative and Samaroo is optimistic that it will be held annually.
