Lawlessness at school sports

Dear Editor,

For a few years now I have noticed that school sports have been descending into what some people have deemed to be extreme lawlessness. Most children used to go in their uniforms, but now that doesn’t happen, and the type of clothing which is being worn at school sports, especially by the girls, is very questionable. Why the teachers are allowing them to enter the ground dressed in that manner is a question that should be answered. Apart from that, you will observe that all sports, whether inter-house or inter-school would have loud music systems blaring some of the most disgusting music, and many of the children can be seen gyrating to the songs, especially the vulgar ones. Again I would like to know why are the teachers and head teachers allowing the disc jockeys to play that type of music and is it important for a sound system to be present?

On Thursday, October 2, the Uitvlugt community ground was the venue for one school’s inter-house sports, and from where I reside, the music could be heard playing loudly non-stop and the only time you hear the results is when the sport has finished and then at a very low level. I assume that the sound system is there for periodic announcements in relation to the sports, and for entertainment when there is a break, but that is not the case. Most of those attending leave their homes with the understanding that they are going to view the sports, but the sound system has their attention and some could be seen consuming alcohol and smoking cigarettes, etc. In some cases there are fights. There are many men with money who attend just to see which little girl they could ensnare. How much longer will the Minister allow this lawlessness to continue?

Yours faithfully,
