Girls broke into home while owners overseas – court told

Two minor females yesterday appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of break and enter and larceny.

According to the police, between September 11 and October 1 at Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast, the two girls aged 15 and 17 broke and entered the home of Kumar Doobay and stole 1 bicycle valued $22,000; 1 Play Station 3 valued $60,000; 10 Play Station 3 games valued $100,000 and 3 Play Station remote controls valued $40,000, a total value of $222,000 and property of Rabindranauth Doobay.

It was also alleged that the girls stole $100,000, 1 wrench valued $20,000, 1 torchlight valued $13,000 and 1 computer valued $200,000 a total value of $321,500 property of Kumar Doobay.

The police said that on September 11 at around 4 pm, Kumar Doobay and his son Rabindranauth Doobay secured their home and left for Canada. On October 1 around 07:30hrs the caretaker of the house observed the two girls in the house and he called the police, who came and found them there. They were taken to the police station. The Doobays then returned to Guyana and discovered the above-mentioned items missing. None of the stolen items were recovered.

The girls were not represented in court and they both pleaded not guilty. The 17-year-old was placed on $100,000 bail, while the 15-year-old was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre at Sophia.

They were both told to return to court on October 22 when the matter will be called again.
