Dear Editor,
The letter to Stabroek News by Swami Aksharananda on October 10 is commendable (‘Recognising outstanding educators’). We need to recognize our past educators and honour them as education is the key to success in life.
Besides those educators mentioned by the Swami there are more educators who contributed to the development of Guyana, such as Rudy Luck of Central High School; Shruti Kant, founder of Guyana Oriental College; the Costello brothers, founders of Tutorial High School; Kenneth Persaud, founder of Guyana Progressive College; Mrs Persaud, founder of the Secretarial School; Balwant Persaud, founder of Georgetown School of Accountancy and the Computer Training Centre, among others.
Computer Training Centre was the first IT training institute to be established in Guyana when computers were rare here.
I hope some day someone can compile a book on all the great educators Guyana has produced.
