Guard gets bail on robbery charge

A security guard was yesterday granted bail after denying an armed robbery charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Georgetown.

Ryan Lowe, who resides at Chapel and Durban Streets, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on September 26, at d’Urban Street, Lodge, being armed with a bottle in the company of another, he robbed Orin Berkett of $35,000.

The unrepresented man admitted to the court that he was previously charged twice; once for trafficking narcotics and once for wounding. The last charge dated back to October of 2009.

The Chief Magistrate set bail at $100,000 based on the fact that Lowe’s previous charges were laid against him many years ago and there was no link to his current charge.
