Four injured in West Demerara crash

Four persons miraculously escaped with their lives after a wedding celebration when an alleged intoxicated driver drove head on into another car on the West Coast Demerara public road, leaving the driver of that car with a broken leg

Residents of Meten-Meer-Zorg said they heard the loud impact of the crash around 1.30 am. One resident Kelvin (only name given), told Stabroek News that nobody could say exactly how the accident happened. He related that three persons were in one car, PHH 9587, and they had all appeared intoxicated at the time. Reports were that they had just left a wedding. The extent of their injuries was not known.

Another resident said that based on what they heard the car with the three persons drove into the path of the other car which was driven by Trevon Lewis.

At the scene of the accident yesterday morning there was a buildup of traffic owing to persons being on their Monday morning commute. Onlookers observing the wreckage were heard questioning “How come nobody died?”

Lewis, who was the lone occupant of the car he was driving, sustained a broken leg. He was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital where he was treated and subsequently discharged.

Keron Lewis, his brother, told Stabroek News that he was certain that his brother wasn’t intoxicated at the time of the accident since he doesn’t consume alcohol.

Meanwhile, Trevon Lewis, 23, in a telephone interview, said that all he remembered was that he was on his way home when he saw an oncoming car in his lane. He tried to avoid a collision but could not since a truck was parked on the side of the road.
