Freeman St woman recovering after shot in stomach

A Freeman Street woman is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after she was shot in the stomach at her home on Friday.

Injured is Marissa Jabbar, 25, of Lot 88 Freeman Street, East La Penitence. The woman, an employee of Royal Castle, was shot to the stomach around 11 pm on Friday.

Though the reports are sketchy, one resident of the area told this newspaper that the shooting was being made out to seem like a robbery, but she believed Jabbar was targeted by someone known to her.

Jabbar’s relatives were tightlipped when contacted but said that the woman was recovering and in a stable condition.

Hours after the shooting occurred, residents gathered outside their homes to watch as the police came and conducted their investigations. One neighbour said she had returned home late that evening and had noticed Jabbar’s gate open. This, she said, was strange and immediately caught her attention. She subsequently learnt that Jabbar had been injured.

When visited yesterday at the GPH female ward, Jabbar refused to speak and maintained that she will not speak to the media at any point in time.
