Homeless man drowned – autopsy confirms

Toolsidas Mangra, the homeless man whose body was removed from an East La Penitence Canal last Friday, died of drowning, according to an autopsy.

The report on the post-mortem examination of Mangra’s body made no comments on whether blows were inflicted on his body as was reported by residents.

Some East La Penitence residents had suggested the man was involved in some kind of altercation and the police failed to intervene and later did not act promptly on the report that he was drowning in the canal. Police have since denied the allegations, while saying attempts were made to rescue the man.

Mangra disappeared in the canal last Wednesday evening and his body was only pulled out of the canal on Friday morning.
