Ramsingh said the project was in response to the destruction of mangroves after an erosion of approximately 1,000 metres of sea defence had left the earthen embankment fully exposed.

Residents have expressed satisfaction with the work completed so far, the release said. Sheik Ayube, a resident was quoted as saying that farming is now made easier, since flooding is no longer a problem.

Another resident, Lachman Dwarkha said, “We are very pleased and satisfied with the work to date.”

Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (NDC) of Enterprise/Leguan Albert James said although the project started at a slow pace, significant strides have been made.
