Woman hit by speeding sand truck on life support

Fatima Jamal, the 62-year-old Alpha Hotel cleaner who was knocked down by a speeding sand truck on Friday, has been placed on life support, her daughter said.

Jamal remains in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital. She sustained severe brain damage and injuries to her hands and legs.

The accident occurred on Friday around 7am on the Agricola Public Road. According to reports, Jamal had just finished work and was crossing the road to go home when she was hit by the truck.

The driver of the truck remains in police custody at the Ruimveldt Police Station assisting with investigations.
