Colts-B, Pacesetters-A, Colts-A into playoffs

Colts-B, Pacesetters-A and Colts-A secured the final three spots in the Georgetown division, registering unbeaten records in the process when the Mackeson King of the Rim 3×3 Basketball Challenge Georgetown zone concluded on Saturday at the Alberttown court.

Due to the wins, the three teams join the defending champions Pitbulls to make up the four teams that will represent the Georgetown zone in the national playoffs on December 19th.

Colts-B secured their berth to the national by defeating Slash by a 10-7 margin in their final elimination encounter.

Shelroy Thomas was the main scoring threat for the winners as he netted five points inclusive of a left- sided two-point dagger that pushed his side ahead with the score on 7-5 in the final two minutes.

On the other hand, Pacesetters-A held off Pacesetters-C by a 13-12 score line to seal their berth in the national playoff round in their final knockout fixture.

Cruising to the win with the score at 13-7 in the final minute, Pacesetters-A would be given a scare as Shawn Gillis netted five unanswered points through back-to-back point missiles to almost push the matchup into overtime.

Meanwhile, Colts-A made light work of Rim Kings in their deciding encounter 11-4. Ball movement and perimeter shooting highlighted the easy wins as Dave Causway netted five points while Rayon Cummings netted four points.

In other results, Colts-B downed Eagles in their previous must win affair 11-9. Needing a two-pointer to push the matchup into overtime with 10 seconds on the clock, Thomas would seal the win for Colts-B as he stole the ball from the Eagles point guard.

In the tenth matchup, Pacesetters-A defeated ‘De Four Ah Dem’ 9-7 while Colts-A edged National All-Stars 11-8 in their opening match of the night.

Colts-B in their earlier group fixture of the night, edged Eagles once more by a 12-10 margin. Thomas was once again the difference between the two units, nailing a walk-off two point jump shot with four seconds remaining on the clock to seal the win with scores at 10-10.

 

The sixth matchup of the night saw Pacesetters-A crushing Headshots 15-8. Stephon Gillis led the scoring for winners with eight points inclusive of two consecutive two pointers to push his side ahead after trailing 6-4 in the final three minutes.

Pacesetters-A would then close out the matchup as they went on a 7-2 offensive run led by Travis Burnette who netted three of his five points in that period.

In the fourth matchup, Pacesetters-C dismantled ‘De Four Ah Dem’ 9-4 while Slash outshot Target by a 15-8 score line and Rim Kings edged Future Setters 7-6 in the fifth and third fixtures respectively.

Pacesetters-C would then overcome Headshots by a 9-6 score in the eleventh affair while Slash made light work of Rising Colts 11-4 in the twelfth fixture.

 

In the seventh fixture, Rising Colts took aim at Target, defeating the latter 9-8 in overtime after normal time finished 7-7 while ‘De Four Ah Dem’ squeaked past Net Warmers in a low scoring matchup 6-4.

The West Demerara zone is slated to commence tomorrow at the Den Amstel Basketball court.
