Fellowship man stung to death by bees

A retired police officer, Ivor Thomas was stung to death by bees on Saturday afternoon at Fellowship, West Coast Demerara as he was weeding his yard.

One of the man’s neighbours, Emelda Thomas, confirmed the man’s death to this newspaper last evening. Thomas was weeding his yard with a brush cutter as he had done many times before when he was attacked. She recalled that he was strong despite his being advanced in age.

As Ivor Thomas was weeding his yard, he was reportedly swarmed by bees from a nearby hive.

It is believed that the sound of Thomas’ brush cutter got the bees agitated and sent them into a stinging frenzy. He was rushed to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre where he died.
