More deportees from US

Guyana on Tuesday afternoon welcomed home its first batch of deportees for 2014 from the United States.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday confirmed that about ten deportees have returned home.

These persons would have committed criminal offences  in the United States and after serving their jail time, arrangements would have been put in place to return them to their homeland. After clearing immigration at the airport on Tuesday the deportees were escorted to CID, Eve Leary where they were processed. It is unclear if any of them are still at CID.

Last August, 21 persons arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri under heavy security after serving  prison sentences in US jails.

Many of the deportees no longer have relatives living in Guyana and often find it hard to adapt to life here.
