ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC- Triple jumper Yordanys Garcia and shot put thrower Melissa Alfred are Dominica’s most outstanding athletes for 2013.
Garcia and Alfred were declared top performers at the Dominica Association of Amateur Athletics (DAAA) 2nd annual awards ceremony held here at the weekend.
Garcia’s exploits included the gold medal at the Central America and Caribbean Senior Championship in Mexico where he won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 16.45m last July.
“It was hard work,” Garcia told Dominica Vibes.
“I trained everyday with little rest, but its good being the top overall athlete now”.
Alfred’s accomplishments include a throw of 13.13 m which earned her 2nd position in the Shot at the OECS invitation last year.
Over seventy athletes were recognized.
