Qualfon Guyana cut down Upper Level Barbers

Qualfon Guyana defeated the Upper Level Barbers in the final of the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) Noble House Seafoods Corporate 15-15 cricket fundraiser on Monday at the MSC ground, Thomas Lands.

In a very entertaining chase, Qualafon’s openers Kellon Carmichael and Marcus Watkins took their team to the winning target of 58 without loss from four overs in reply to the 57-3 posted by Upper Level in a game reduced to 10 overs per side due to fading light.

Carmichael, captain of the Qualfon’s Guyana team, smashed six fours and a six in his unbeaten 31 while Watkins’ 17 included two fours and a six.

Earlier, Larry Smith top scored with 15 for Upper Level Barbers receiving support from former national player Lennox Cush hit two fours in 12 and former West Indies under-19 left-hander Kwame Cross who pulled ex-Guyana under-19 pacer Seon Daniels for a six that landed on the MSC Pavilion and followed up with a boundary in his 13.

Daniels was the best bowler for Qualfon Guyana ending with figures of 2-11.

Qualfon Guyana, which included former West Indies fast bowler Colin Stuart, won the Noble Seafood’s Trophy for their effort.

National Park BBC, a team which comprises a group of entrepreneurs and media officials who come together daily at the National Park for physical activity and Wartsila Operations were the teams beaten by Qualfon Guyana and Upper Level to set up the finals.

The tournament was the first of 2014 and was aimed at fostering camaraderie and encouraging physical activity among Corporate Guyana. Another objective was to raise funds for Malteenoes’ developmental drive.

Former and current renown cricketers tuned out as guest players for the various sides; Stuart and Carmaichael (Qualafon), Cush & Jermaine Neblette (Upper Level Barbers), Roderick Lovell & Paul Castello (Nat Park BBC) and Neil Barry, Sean Holder and Troy Lewis (Wartsila) all came out of retirement to don their whites for the worthy cause.

The tournament which was said to be a success by the organisers was sponsored by Noble House Seafoods, Star Party Rental and Friends of Malteenoes.
