Bishoo not looking too far ahead

Guyana Jaguars leg-break bowler Devendra Bishoo, said despite his match-winning performance in the last game against Leewards, he plans on taking it “day by day, match by match and wicket by wicket,” as the 2014/15 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League tournament progresses.

Bishoo, who was instrumental in the Jaguars innings and 10-run win over the Leewards on Sunday said that he is not looking too far into the future, but is rather contented on taking it one step at a time and ensuring that he maintains his confidence and form.

The West Indies ‘A’ bowler who grabbed 3-31 in the first innings returned with enough magic and mystery to bag an additional 4-67 as he ended with match-winning figures of 7-98, making a good first-class return to the Guyana National Stadium ground where he snared his historical 15-149 against Trinidad &Tobago during last season’s tournament.

“I’m satisfied starting off the tournament well, I feel like I’m getting back to where I was before. I wanted to start the tournament on a high and start off good but most off all I really wanted us to win the first match badly,” said the 29-year-old who spoke to Stabroek Sports yesterday.

Bishoo, who formed a potent partnership with fellow spinner Veerasammy Permaul who also played a crucial part in the thumping they handed the Leewards said that the pair had plan to operate in a systematically aggressive manner during their spells.

“We planned to bowl as tight as possible and not give anyway anything as long as you are patient when bowling things will happen”.

Like fellow Jaguars teammate Assad Fudadin who was also on the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team tour, Bishoo credited the time spent in Barbados prior to the A team tour as one of his reasons for bowling well, likewise Fudadin who told this newspaper a week ago that his batting form was further honed when he spent time in Barbados.

Elaborating on the events which led to his good bowling form which seems to be improving by the game, the Albion Cricket Club player explained that in Barbados he did “Lots of net sessions, match simulations and practice matches” which aided him in regaining significant bowling form.

As for his team who currently sits at the top of the table with 17 points, the right-arm spinner basically indicated that the “Everyone (the team) is gelling together comfortably” and they are keen on rectifying any problems they might have in the respective cricketing areas. He noted that there is “Always room for improvement”, adding that the tournament will get tougher as it progresses and that they need to stay strong and fit ahead of the upcoming games.

Meanwhile, this newspaper caught up with Chief Selector and assistant Guyana Jaguars Coach Rayon Griffith who stated that the players are in good spirits and are currently injury-free while adding that no changes to the side have yet made ahead of Friday’s encounter with the Windwards.

The Jaguars are expected to undergo two days of training sessions at the Providence Stadium today and tomorrow while the Windwards who are expected to be in Guyana early this morning will also conduct their session during the afternoon at a venue to be decided.
