Festival City enters main draw of Guinness Greatest of the Streets

Festival City successfully navigated its path to the main draw of Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown leg, crushing Louisa Row 4-0 in their final preliminary round matchup at the East Ruimveldt Community centre on Monday.

Dwayne Lawrence opened the scoring for the winners in the third minute with a powerfully struck right-footed attempt from the right side of the field, which sailed into the roof of the goal.

It would then become 2-0 one minute later as Eon Alleyne slotted home down the centre of the goal unchallenged, following a left sided pass during a two-on-one situation with the final defender.

Another two-on-one situation in the 17th minute with the final defender would lead to Lawrence sealing his double as he placed his effort into the right hand side of the net, from the left side of the park.

Solomon Austin would then seal the score line in the 24th minute as he stabbed his effort down the middle of the goal, after an initial attempt came off the right upright and fell fortuitously into his path.

In the fourth fixture, Riverview overcame Kitty Showstoppers 1-0 to earn their spot in the next section. The Kitty side spurned a great chance to take the lead in the 13th minute as Anthony Sancho missed a penalty attempt from the halfway mark following a handball infraction.

The fifth encounter of the night saw West Back Road claim a berth to the main draw as they defeated Norton Street West 2-1 on sudden death kicks, following a 1-1 score at the conclusion of normal time.

Keon Caesar gave the eventual winners the early lead in the third minute with a strike to the empty net, after a missed clearance by the advancing final defender on an initial left sided shot, fell into his pathway.

Durban would answer back seconds later through a Nigel DeCamp finish down the centre of the goal from the left side of the field.
