Defending champions Winners Connections successfully retained their championship, edging giant-killers High Stars by a 1-0 score line when the Upper Demerara Football Association GT Beer knockout tourney concluded New Year’s Day.

Due to the victory, Winners Connections clinched the top prize of $1,000,000 and the trophy whilst the runners-up pocketed the second place accolade and $600,000.

In the showdown for the third place position, heavyweights Topp XX clipped the wings of the youthful Eagles FC by a 3-0 score line. Shawn Daniels opened the scoring for the winners through a 16th minute attempt.

Terrence Aaron would then double their lead as he found the back of the net compliments of a 29th minute conversion. The result would then be completed in the 60th minute as Daniels sealed his double. With the win, Topp XX walked away with $400,000 and the respective trophy whilst Eagles FC collected $200,000 and a trophy.

Collis Gifth, UDFA President said the individual section of the presentation ceremony will take place at a date to be announced. Awards up for grabs include the most valuable player, highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender and best coach. They will also be an award for the most disciplined team.
