Agricola youth remanded on theft, fraud charges

An Agriclola man was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared in court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and fraudulently obtaining a quantity of cash.

Romel Bollers, 23, pleaded not guilty to both charges read by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

It is alleged that on October 13, 2014, on the McDoom Public Road, Bollers stole a CG motorcycle, valued $420,000, belonging to Permanand Jagernauth. It is also alleged that on November 21, in Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he obtained $500,000 from Carol Bollers by pretending to be Omar Murray.

The unrepresented Bollers was moved to tears after the charges were read to him.

But Prosecutor Deniro Jones, in his objections to bail, told the court that similar charges are likely to be made against the defendant at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. He cited also the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.

The prosecution’s objections were upheld and Bollers was remanded to prison until January 19, when he will return to court for the filing of statements.
