Alleged Soesdyke robber Couchman was shot to the heart -autopsy reveals

Relatives of Ryan Couchman, the robber who was fatally shot by a policeman in plainclothes on Sunday night at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD), are disappointed with the police response to their queries and believe that there is more to his death which is being left unsaid.

An autopsy which was conducted yesterday revealed that Couchman died as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained to his heart.

Couchman, 34, of Lot 1360 18th Street, Diamond was shot at around 7pm on Sunday after he along with two other men lashed the police officer to his face and relieved him of a gold chain which he was wearing at the time. Stabroek News was told that Couchman along with his accomplices tried to made good their escape but the man started to fire shots, one of which caught the now dead Couchman to the left side of his chest. The two other accomplices escaped.

A relative of Couchman, who spoke with Stabroek News on the condition of anonymity yesterday said that efforts to meet the police to find out who the shooter is, proved futile since all the family was told is that the police do not know where the person is. She also said that she believes that the person is not in custody but has been released. Couchman will be cremated tomorrow.
