Alberttown fire victim seeking public’s help

Edward Oudkerk, who lost his house in last month’s fire in Alberttown, is now seeking the public’s assistance.

On December 27th, Oudkerk, 54, lost his home 76 Sixth Street, Alberttown in a fire believed to have been started by a young child playing with matches.

Oudkerk says he needs help because he is finding it hard to support his family, which includes his 91-year-old mother, Edith Wolff, his pregnant friend Sonia George and four children.

Wolff was struck by falling debris while escaping the house and George had lost consciousness due to the smoke. They both received medical attention and were discharged some hours later.

“I visited the fire relief people and they made a proposal to me, in terms of accommodation but I have to discuss it and think about it,” Oudkerk said.

He is currently staying at a relative’s house in city and lamented the inconvenience he is facing. “I would be happy to receive some assistance, at least to rebuild. My family [is] now scattered,” the distraught man said.

Persons interested in assisting Oudkerk can reach him at telephone number 682-1504.
