PPP/C team holds fruitful talks with Gecom

A PPP/C delegation yesterday met officials of the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) and according to Chairman Dr Steve Surujbally, the discussion was fruitful.

Giving Stabroek News an update late yesterday afternoon, he said Gecom officials and the seven-member PPP/C delegation seemed to be on “the same wave length” as it relates to the issues being discussed.

The delegation was headed by PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee and the meeting lasted for approximately one and a half hours.

Surujbally said that during the meeting a number of electoral issues were discussed and the party members expressed what they wanted to see and needed.

At the party’s weekly press conference held prior to the meeting Rohee called on Gecom to spare no effort in ensuring that the looming election is free and fair. Reading from a prepared statement, he stressed that his party is advocating for a clean list free of discrepancies.

He called on the elections body to do everything to prepare a clean list and to educate electors on the elections process before pointing out that there were flaws in this regard during the last elections in 2011.
