Will Rohee vie for the presidential candidacy again?

PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee is still mum on the ongoing process to determine the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming general election.

When pressed by members of the media after the party’s weekly press briefing at Freedom House on Monday, Rohee said he would not be disappointed should he not be nominated as the party’s presidential candidate.

As the public awaits a date for general elections, the ruling party has refrained from divulging any information as to the candidate selection process. Rohee told the Stabroek News that the party leadership was still discussing the presidential nominee and did not give a time frame for such discussions to be concluded.

When pressed further he only stated that the public would be made aware of the party’s decision “sooner rather than later.”

The party’s general secretary was asked to confirm whether or not he was still in the race to which he replied that he would not be commenting.

Rohee had previously stated at the press briefing that the party was slowing moving forward with its election machinery.

The general secretary has for months dodged questions on the presidential candidate at the polls and Monday proved no different.

He remains adamant that the PPP has not come to a final decision on who will represent the party.

While the party’s general secretary once again evaded direct answers as to whether he was vying for the presidential candidacy, President Donald Ramotar had stated in November that he was “confident” that his name would once again appear on the ballot.

President Ramotar had suspended Parliament on November 10, 2014 and is yet to name a date for elections despite promising in December that this would have been done after the Christmas holidays.
