Robbery accused banged victim in head with bottle

A man was yesterday granted $100,000 bail by Magistrate Annette Singh after he denied a charge of robbery with violence read to him in a city court.

It is alleged on December 27, 2014 at Congress Place, Sophia, Osafo Bobb robbed Tamika Eastman of a quantity of valuables and cash, amounting to $118,000, using personal violence.

According to the police facts, on the day in question about 11.45 pm, the virtual complainant (VC) went to the ‘Green Lime’ at Congress Place in search of her boyfriend. The defendant walked into her and she thought that he just wanted to pass. However, the man held onto her shoulder bag and hit her to the head with a glass bottle he had in his hand. She was relieved of her valuables and he made good his escape. After the incident, an ID parade was conducted and the VC positively identified Bobb as the man who had robbed her, the court was told.

Bobb was represented by attorney Adrian Thompson who made an application for reasonable bail to be granted. Thompson told the court that his client was picked up by the police but not in relation to the matter before the court.

Prosecutor Adduni Inniss objected to bail based on the nature and gravity of the offence.

However, the prosecution’s objection was overruled and Bobb was granted $100,000 bail. He is expected to make his next court appearance on February 25.
