The Guyana Sport Shooting Federation has said that it has recorded a successful 2014 and plans are in train to pioneer the sport of archery this year, at a recent meeting with officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

According to a press release, the group also presented documents that had been adopted at the Federation’s AGM held on January 29. “These included copies of the Federation’s Report for 2014 together with externally audited Financial Statements, and a copy of their updated Constitution,” the statement said.

Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Alfred King lauded the Federation on this initiative as it is the first sportentity to have started its 2015 calendar activities, in keeping with ministry and National Sports Commission guidelines.

The meeting, held last Monday, also provided a synopsis of the AGM where Federation President Vidushi Persaud said its success is a credit to all members who un-hesitatingly came on board to promote sport shooting in Guyana in a safe and well regulated manner. She also paid tribute to the work of the directors of the founding board who have all given so freely of their time and energies to make 2014 the success it has been.

At the AGM, Secretary of the shooting federation Steve Ninvalle delivered a comprehensive report to the membership from its establishment in August 2014 to the end of the reporting period of December 31, 2014. He said the Federation has successfully held two Steel Challenge competitions and a Practical Shooting Match which saw members participating in two international matches where they won prizes for Practical Shooting, and conducted three of the Federation’s Range Discipline and Firearms Safety Courses at the National Sport Resource Centre.

Ninvalle further reported that the Federation is associated with two international bodies: the Steel Challenge Shooting Association and the Amateur Trapshooting Association and revealed that it is seeking linkages with other groups. Locally, the Federation is sanctioned by the NSC. Recently, through its partnership with the NSC, the Federation was granted permission to use an indoor facility in the National Gymnasium and an outdoor facility at the GNS ground that will be launching the sport of archery here some time this year.
