Footsteps burglar accused of stealing nearly $2M in goods

Orin Williams, who is accused of breaking and entering a city business and stealing almost $2M in items, was remanded to prison after telling a court he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is alleged that Williams, between September 2, 2014 and January 15, 2015 broke and entered the Footsteps Store in Georgetown and carted off a quantity of items amounting to $1,832,238 in total value.

But he denied the allegation and offered to give an explanation after Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry asked him to enter a plea.

Williams told the court that he had no knowledge of the offence. On the day he was arrested, he said, he went to borrow money from a friend and he observed the stolen items at his friend’s residence when he arrived there.

Prosecutor Michael Grant, however objected to bail. He told the magistrate that Williams had been charged before with a similar crime. As a result, bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to March 13, when it will be called at Court 10.
