Minibuses still have not lowered fares

Dear Editor,

In recent months despite the continuing drop in the price of oil and the fact that in Guyana the petrol station owners have lowered their prices, minibus drivers and conductors are still charging their passengers the fare they used to charge when the price for gasoline was higher.

We suggest that the Minister responsible for transport should be made cognizant of this and see to it that the fares passengers pay to the minibus conductors reflects that the drop in the oil price. Some conductors do put undue pressure on their passengers to pay unnecessarily high fares.

In particular pensioners and low wage-earners are bullied by conductors to pay a higher fare.

Yours faithfully,
