Man caught with ganja after tractor trouble

A jet man yesterday found himself in a city court on a drug charge after police said he could not keep his cool when lawmen offered to help him with his malfunctioning tractor.

Charles Gill, 32, police said, started to act suspiciously when police officers out on patrol approached and offered their assistance after they noticed him having problems with the vehicle on March 21, at Arangoy, Cuyuni River.

As a result, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry was told, the officers decided to conduct a search and found a gray haversack containing cannabis.

Gill, who resides at 763 Great Diamond, Block X, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1, where he was arraigned on a charge that he had four grammes of cannabis in his possession.

After listening to the presentation of the prosecution, the Chief Magistrate denied Gill bail and the case was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for April 9.
