‘Bizen Bull’ pleads guilty to 2012 tug murder

Gilbert Gill, called ‘Bizen Bull’, yesterday pleaded guilty to murdering Khemraj Dass called ‘Lakeram Dass or Lako’, when the capital offence was read to him at the High Court.

Justice Roxane George, who is presiding over the matter, has however granted the defence’s request for a probation report and mental evaluation, pending sentence.

When the clerk read the indictment to Gill, which states that between July 7 and 10, 2012 in the county of Demerara, he murdered Dass the man pleaded guilty.

After his client’s guilty plea, defence attorney Madan Kissoon asked the court for a probation report and mental evaluation.

The judge then adjourned the matter to May 7, to facilitate the presentation of the findings.

Gill had accepted the charge before the empanelment of a jury to hear his case.

The attorneys representing the state are Diana Kaulesar and Shawnette Austin.

Dass, 47, formerly of Lot 16 Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was allegedly killed aboard a tug, at the DIDCO Wharf.

A post-mortem examination conducted by Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, had stated that the man died of an incised wound to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
