NA man shot dead in land clearing row

A land clearing fire turned deadly in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam last evening as one of the men who set it was shot dead and his brother chopped.

Dead is Patrick Boodie, 38, of Levi Dam, Mount Sinai. Boodie’s brother, Jason Nicholas, 28; a mason and taxi driver and another man who was in the vicinity, Calvin Charles called Gavin were injured during the incident.

Charles reportedly functioned as a peacemaker in the incident before it escalated. The incident reportedly occurred sometime after 6 PM.

According to reports, the brothers concluded their land clearing activity late yesterday afternoon and lit a fire on the garbage. The fire spread and affected a neighbour who alerted the brothers.   As one of the brothers checked what was happening, the neighbour identified as “John”, reportedly dealt a chop to Nicholas. Nicholas at this point, summoned his brother. Boodie was later felled by a bullet. It is unclear who fired the shot.

As the news spread across the community, the injured men were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Boodie was pronounced dead on arrival. Other residents in the area gave a conflicting story stating that it was the brothers who were armed with a pitch fork and cutlasses.

Nicholas has been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention, while Charles remains at the New Amsterdam hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
