GECOM receives $10.2M from India

The High Commissioner of India to Guyana, V. Mahalingam, yesterday presented to the Chief Election Officer, Keith Lowenfield a cheque to the value of $10, 250, 000. A release from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) said that this contribution will be used by GECOM in aspects of its Civic and Voter Education programme. Moreover, it will be used to ensure that adequate provisions are in place during the elections to facilitate persons living with disabilities, and for activities associated with Polling Day itself.

20150424gecom chequeThe release said that the CEO conveyed the thanks of the Commission and Staff of the GECOM Secretariat, and promised to judiciously use the funds provided by the High Commission of India to further serve the Guyanese people.

The High Commissioner of India was accompanied by his Second Secretary (Political, Culture, Information, Consular and Head of Chancery), S.M. Joshi.
