President, PPP must act now against Ramsaran

Dear Editor,

The crude, foul and profane language used by Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran in response to questions asked by Ms. Sherlina Nageer is disappointing and disgraceful. His threat to slap her for the fun of it and the further threat of sexual humiliation by having her stripped in public is an outrage. There simply can be no justification or rationalization for this level of depravity from a public servant, a member of Guyana’s Cabinet at that.

His apology, if it can be so characterized, was tepid and insincere. President Ramotar and PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee should step up and do the right thing. Now.

Dr. Ramsaran should know that rabies is not transmitted human to human by saliva. The only known cases of human to human transmission is by corneal and organ transplantation, where those organs and corneas came from persons who had rabies.

His attempt to insinuate a fear of contracting rabies because the questioner was “in his face” is insidious and inventive but patently false.

And if anyone in that video needs psychiatric help, an easy triage can answer that.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh
