GGMC engineer murder inquiry set for June 22nd

The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against the men accused of killing former Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC) engineer Trevor Abrams is set to begin on June 22nd.

Rayon Paddy, Orin Arthur and Steve Prescod are charged with the murder.

Abrams, 32, of Lot 131 Samatta Point, Grove Housing Scheme, was gunned down along the Little Diamond Public Road, on February 27. His death was suspected to be a hit that was linked to his work.

When the case was called on Tuesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Prosecutor Bharat Mangru reported to the court that the prosecution has a total of about 20 witnesses to be called and is ready to commence the PI.

The June date was later set for the start of the PI.

Arthur and Paddy are also charged with the murder of security guard Wilfred Stewart, who was fatally shot on December 8, 2014, at Providence. But the investigation into the murder is not yet completed and the matter was adjourned for June 22nd also for reports.

Stewart, 45, of Graham’s Hall, was on duty when a gang stormed the Sterling Products Limited (SPL) compound. After fatally shooting Stewart and wounding Mario Gohill, 31, an Indian national working as a chemist at SPL, the invading bandits made their way to the accounts department at the SPL Providence complex, where they were met with a locked safe. The men subsequently fled in a waiting car.

Paddy is currently unrepresented, while Arthur is represented by attorney Sonia Parag, and Prescod by attorney Peter Hugh.
