Gecom’s electoral process acceptable – OAS Observers

The OAS Electoral Observation Mission in Guyana has observed and stakeholders have reported that the electoral process is being conducted as planned by the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom).

The team reminds all political parties and citizens that in the period following the closing of polls, results must be tabulated and compiled across a large territory, a press statement from the group said. “The Mission calls on all political actors to act responsibly and urges citizens to wait patiently for the outcome, allowing Gecom – the only official source of election results – the time to ensure a complete and accurate tabulation process,” the group said.

The Mission reiterates the need for candidates and supporters to adhere to the Code of Conduct signed by all political parties to ensure order and tranquillity on election day and the days thereafter in compliance with national electoral laws and regulations.
