Officials who received money from health fund should help save little Colleacia’s life

Dear Editor,

In the 5th May edition of the SN, there was an article on a little child from West Berbice who needs a lifesaving operation to remove a tumour from her brain. The article quoted her father as saying that his daughter, seven-year-old Colleacia Harcourt is very intelligent and has hopes of becoming a lawyer when she grows up. That will hinge on the parents being able to raise G$7M for her operation.

The article said that the parents approached the Ministry of Health and were given G$2M leaving them short by G$5M.

Little Colleacia is a likely star in this country’s future as against some people who never shined when called upon to serve their country so it is the Government’s duty to help her get healthy.

On the other hand, we have for example Minister Pauline Sukhai who received G$2.1M to do her teeth, the Attorney General who received over G$4m for only God knows what though he claimed without providing the evidence to have repaid the sum and a few others in Government who are all of substantial means. They have no glowing achievement that anyone can highlight, they are on the wane and yet they received substantial assistance for their health.

It would be very helpful if all or some of the officials who received financial assistance for their health, repay this Nation the money given them by personally donating the required sum of only G$5M each to the parents of Little Colleacia.

It would also be very nice if the first donation could come from Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo. He can do without this month’s pension I am sure.

The PPP/C will then definitely get my vote tomorrow.

 Yours faithfully,

John London
