Eagles routed by TGH

Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters shot down Eagles 97-39 in an Open division fixture when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ championships continued Friday at the Burnham Court.

Five players recorded double digits in the rout in which there were 13 three pointers. Travis Williams was the top scorer with 19 points while Joslyn Crawford, Keith Tute, Kwesi Roberts, Horace Hodges and Stephon Gillis netted 13, 12, 12, 10 and nine points respectively.

Louis James top scored for the losers with 13 points while Japheth Hackett chipped in 10 points. The opening period of the fixture quickly ended any perceived notion of a contest as the home side outshot Eagles 22-4.

Gillis led the assault with six points from two back-to-back three pointers while Hodges netted six points through three layups. Williams also chipped in with five points in the period inclusive of a three pointer.

Opting to utilize their bench for most of the second stanza, Pacesetters would build on their advantage as they outshot Eagles 21-11 to take a 43-15 lead. Roberts was the principal scorer in the period with eight points highlighted by two three-point daggers.

Tute would also make his presence felt with five points from two layups and a freethrow whilst Crawford scored four points from two layups. Scoring nine points inclusive of a three-pointer in the period was James.

Williams would shoulder the scoring in the third period, netting 14 points through layups and fast break points as his side took a 69-29 advantage going into the final stanza. Hodge recorded two layups f or four points during the period as the next best scorer.

James was once again the top scorer for the disappointing Eagles, scoring four points through two layups. The period would then witness Pacesetters outscoring Eagles by a 28-10 score line to complete the huge win.

Crawford recorded nine points in the period littered with three layups and a three-pointer while Tute attacked the rim at will to net his seven points. Continuing the trend of the night with two three pointers in his six minutes was Shawn Gillis.

Hackett was the top shot in the period with six points from two layups and a midrange jumper. The second match of the section saw Melanie Patriots downed West Side Warriors by a 70-65 margin.

Sherlon Legall netted 29 points in the win while Floyd Arthur was the next best scorer with 17. Supporting with seven points each were Ashton Adams and Dennis Corbin. On the losing side, Devon Murray netted a game high 33 points.

He was supported by Ralph Browne who scored 12 points.

Action in the tourney will continue at the same venue today with three fixtures.

In the opening matchup at 17:00hrs, Eagles will faceoff with Republic Bank Nets in an u-23 matchup while University of Guyana will tackle Colts in the second fixture of the division at 19:00hrs.

The final matchup of the card will witness Pepsi Sonics tackling Melanie Patriots from 21:00hrs in an Open Division showdown.
