Ramotar must pick up the phone and congratulate Granger

Dear Editor,

Now that the coalition has won (by one seat), the PPP should behave like a mature party and do the honourable thing. If the PPP were to do so quickly, it will go down honourably. President Ramotar must concede and congratulate David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo for their victory, albeit narrow; a win is a win. It was a hard fought campaign. It must come to an end and allow the nation to breathe a sigh of relief. Let the healing begin.

A majority voted for change, and a lot of PPP supporters crossed the divide as my NACTA poll suggested. The PPP must understand that there were a lot of angry former supporters (whom the party alienated) and they voted with the opposition. The PPP must be mature enough to accept that the people rejected its incumbency. It is not the end of the world. They can rebound in five years.

Ramotar must do the right thing: pick up the phone and congratulate Granger and Nagamootoo. And my personal congrats to the two gentlemen and their campaign team!

Yours faithfully,

Vishnu Bisram
